International Festival for
dance, film and new media

pictures of (e)motion was founded by tanz performance köln in cooperation with the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik in 1995 and has since been dedicated to presenting and supporting the artistic middle ground that develops out of the work with dance in a film, video and computer technology context.

Particularly in the are of contemporary dance numerous artists are experimenting more with digital imagery and editing techniques.
Dancers and choreographers develop works of art together with programers and media designers that are only possible through the use of digital technology and enable a sensuous perception of audiovisual technologies.
The combination of the physical quality of dance and the ephemeral quality of digitally created imagery leads to an intruiging result and the outstanding examples of this fusion build the nucleus of the pictures of (e)motion festival.
Dance film series, photography exhibits as well as computer and video installations complement live performances.
